Deferiet board establishes building rental agreement

DEFERIET — The village Board of Trustees approved a new municipal hall rental agreement Wednesday.

Trustees Timothy Irey and William Littlefield were asked to rework the agreement after issues arose during recent rentals.

The new agreement states residents who rent the building for profit-making ventures will be charged a fee the board will determine on an individual basis.

All renters will be charged a refundable $100 deposit. Village officials may keep all or part of the deposit if the building is left in an unsatisfactory condition.

To clarify the renter’s responsibilities, board members drafted a checklist. The list specifies trash must be removed from the building. The Department of Public Works employee on duty will inspect the building prior to the deposit’s return. All damages are the renter’s responsibility.

In other business, the board approved the hiring of summer employees. Leann Wood will be the summer youth recreation director with Allysa Kamide as her assistant. Jessica Irey will help the DPW. They will work six hours on weekdays for about six weeks.
