WATSON Firefighters responded to rekindling hot spots in a forest fire in the town of Watson Monday, one day after it was initially reported by a LifeNet of New York helicopter operated by Air Methods. The crew was on a training mission in the area, according to Ann M. Smith, regional business development manager.
They saw smoke and flew a little closer to confirm it was a fire, Ms. Smith said.
The Lowville Volunteer Fire Department was directed to Peckham Road. Once on the scene, it took approximately 30 minutes to determine the fire site was located on state land between Benton and Lomber roads.
At this point the cause of the fire is not known. State forest rangers are looking to determine the cause, Lowville Fire Chief Timothy N. Bush said Monday afternoon,
Lowville Fire Department was assisted by departments from Croghan, New Bremen, Beaver Falls and Martinsburg.
