M-W golfers stay unbeaten in NAC Division II with home sweep


WADDINGTON - The Madrid-Waddington golf team improved to 5-0 after gaining tri-meet sweep over Heuvelton and Edwards-Knox at the Twin Brooks Golf Course in NAC Division II action Monday.

M-W’s No. 1 Jeff Mott took medalist honors with a 42 beating Heuvelton’s top scorer Jack Tennant (46) and Edwards-Knox’s medalist Hunter Tuttle 43.

Kaden Pickering posted the second best round of the day for M-W in the No. 3 slot firing a 43 with a birdie on four to sweep his matches against Lucas Harper of Heuvelton (56) and Ross Curley of E-K (74).

Alex Hammond (48) swept his opponents in the No. 2 slot against Heuvelton’s Will Tennant (53) and E-K’s Zach Allen (68). TJ Gagnon’s 53 in the No. 4 spot beat Dedrick Johnson’s (58) of Heuvelton and Caleb Rowe’s (71) of E-K. M-W’s Wade Lawrence’s round of 64 earned points over Eric Stewart of Heuvelton (76) and Rich Finnerty of E-K (72).

In the girls match, M-W’s Mary Young (59) outshot E-K’s Catherine Curley. M-W’s alternates Jacob Seguin and Zeb Zagroebelny both carded 58’s.


In a dual meet at the Raymondville Country Club, the Flyers suffered their fourth straight loss in a 3-2 setback at home to Brushton-Moira.

Devin Delisle, the reigning Section 10 individual champion, shot an even-par 36 that included birdies on the first, fifth and eighth holes, to take a point from Jacob Levison, who shot an NAC career best 45 competing in the top pair. Also gaining wins for the Panthers were Hunter Russell, who stopped Ty Cotter 41-51 and Matt Niles, who posted a 48-53 decision over Isaac Barkley, who was making his NAC debut.

Earning the points for the Flyers were Kyle Bond, who defeated Nathan Niles 52-58 and Brandon Palmer, who outshot Mike Labarr 50-60.

Austin Ward carded a 50 playing an exhibition round for N-N, which is slated to face Salmon River at Cedarview in Helena on Thursday. E-K will also be competing in the tri-meet.
