SLC softball team surges past Tupper Lake

BRASHER FALLS - The St. Lawrence Central varsity softball team scored 14 runs in the second inning en route to surging to a 20-2 NAC East Division win in five innings at home over Tupper Lake on Tuesdy.

Lindsey Thayer fanned four, walking none and allowed just one hit through the first three innings to pick up the win. Kelsey Newtown had one strikeout, six walks and gave up just two more hits in two innings of relief. Malorie McLear went the first three innings in taking the loss.

Thayer, Noel Rufa and Tera Douglas combined to lead the way offensively for SLC with three hits apiece. Rufa finished with two homeruns, five RBIs and three runs scored. Thayer slugged a two-run homerun and came around to score twice while Douglas was 3-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Haleigh Agans (run scored), Breanna Vatter (3RBIs, 2 runs scored) and Brandi Thomas (2 runs scored, RBI) delivered two hits apiece. Chelsea Savage singled, scored two runs and drove in another. Liz Lynch went 1-1 with three runs scored while Newtown drilled a two-run single.

Ari Bishop had two hits in the losing cause. Alison Richards connected for the other hit while Sidney Kulzer and McLear came around to score the Tupper Lake runs in the fifth inning.

Now 11-2 overall, the Lady Larries are slated to play at South Colton today against Colton-Pierrepont starting at 4:30 p.m.

In other NAC softball matchups on Tuesday, Franklin Academy posted a 21-0 Central Division decision over Gouverneur while West Division action saw Hammond outscored Edwards-Knox 15-9, Lisbon outlast Hermon-DeKalb 13-11 and Heuvelton overpowered Morristown 24-2.
