SUNY Potsdam honors Johnson sisters

POTSDAM - The sister combination of Heather and Megan Johnson of Heuvelton were honored by SUNY Potsdam at the annual Maxcy Awards Banquet on Tuesday evening.

Heather Johnson received the Most Valuable Player Award in Softball and Megan Johnson received the Softball Coaches Award. Heather Johnson led the 11-21 Bears with a .340 batting average, 23 RBIs and four triples and belted two homeruns.

Megan Johnson hit .262 with two homeruns and 11 RBIs and pitched to a 4-5 record with a no-hitter. An MVP and Coaches Award was presented for each of the college’s 16 varsity sports. Another member of the Bears’ squad Ashley Thayer of Winthrop was named to the All-SUNYAC Conference team on Tuesday.

Other St. Lawrence County athletes honored were: Katy Briedis of Canton - Women’s Basketball MVP and Kakia Ashley of Potsdam - Women’s Hockey Coaches Award.
