SLC softball halts C-P; N-N takes pair from P-H

SOUTH COLTON - The St. Lawrence Central varsity softball team gained a 5-0 NAC East Division win over Colton-Pierrepont in a rain-shortened five-inning game at Swift Field on Wednesday.

Lindsey Thayer fanned 11 batters, walked none and allowed just one hit for the win while Chelsea Savage led the way offensively with three hits, including a two-run homerun. Noelle Rufa and Hailey Agans each single for the Larries who scored twice in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Courtney Miller singled to account for the lone C-P hit as Sabrina Johnson walked two and allowed five hits in being saddled with the loss.

In other NAC East softball action on Wednesday, Norwood-Norfolk swept Parishville-Hopkinton 17-0, 6-2 and Chateaugay took two from Madrid-Waddington 9-1, 6-1.

N-N 17, P-H 0-2: At the Parishville Firemen’s Field, the Lady Flyers built a 9-0 lead through the first two innings of the opening six-inning game then put the game out of reach with a seven-run outburst in the fifth.

Katie Ames pitched five shutout innings for the win, striking out three and walking one while Nicole White was tagged with the loss.

Carlea Weaver singled and scored three runs in the winning effort. Kristin Barkley singled and scored twice. Courtney Wagstaff doubled. Mickey Frego came around to score four runs and Jorji Labarge scored twice.

Kodi Perkins went 2-3 in the losing cause. Mary Coventry and Marissa Paradis both singled.

The nightcap saw Ames go the distance for the win, striking out four and walking two as the Lady Flyers built a 3-0 lead through two innins then answered a two-run rally by P-H in the top of the fourth with a four-run surge in the bottom of the fifth to seal the sweep. White had four strikeouts and walked seven while surrendering three hits in taking the loss.

Offensively for N-N, Weaver (run scored), Megan Stevenson and Cortney Harvey connected for the hits. Barkley came around to score two runs while Frego and Aleah Palmer each scored once.

Coventry highlighted the P-H offense with a two-run double that scored Marlee Wilson and Sarah Cole. Makenzie Reif was 2-3 and Perkins launched a triple.
