Property Damage Accidents


State police from around the region investigated several property damage accidents on Tuesday and Wednesday. Among those were:

■ Mary L. Aiken, 60, of South Colton and Richard A. Barbant, 74, of Canton were involved in a two-vehicle collision at 8:32 a.m. Wednesday on County Route 29, near Howardville Road, in the town of Pierrepont.

■ Joshua J. Crawford, 21, of Heuvelton and David Ashley Sharpe, 63, of Winthrop were involved in a two-vehicle collision at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday on state Route 68, near Murphy Road, in the town of Lisbon.

Animal Cruelty

MASSENA— A Massena man was arrested Thursday afternoon when state police discovered the remains of four horses, one a rotting corpse.

State Police at Massena arrested Patrick J. O’Neill, 65, of Massena for 22 counts animal cruelty after investigating the property at 326 Haberstock Road. No cause of death was listed for any of the horses, however they suspected one had been dead for at least two weeks. More than 20 other horses were removed from the scene. Police were assisted by the Massena Humane Society and all animals were examined by veterinarian Dr. Joel Nezenon.

Mr. O’Neill was arraigned in Massena Town Court and later released on his own recognizance to appear at a later date. The investigation is ongoing. No other suspects have been listed.
