Colton-Pierrepont Central School class leaders


COLTON — The academic leaders for the class of 2013 at Colton-Pierrepont Central School are Nicholas Avery, valedictorian, and Isaiah Johnson, salutatorian.

Mr. Avery is the son of Robin and Martin Avery, South Colton. He is a member of Student Government and the National Honor Society and has held roles in high school musical productions. He has played soccer, lacrosse and basketball, earning Academic All-Northern awards, and has participated in several community service activities.

He plays the guitar and has taken music performance and theory courses, including music technology, rock band, and jazz improvisation.

Mr. Avery has been accepted to SUNY Potsdam and hopes to join the Crane School of Music. Mr. Avery will major in music and business administration to seek a career in the music industry.

Mr. Johnson is the son of Donald and Jacqueline Johnson, South Colton. He will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma and has taken several advanced classes, including AP U.S. history and AP world history. He has participated in Project Challenge through Clarkson University, Potsdam, has been a member of Student Government for four years, participated in several community service projects and Whiz Quiz, worked on the school yearbook and served as a sound technician for school musical productions.

Mr. Johnson earned Academic All-Northern awards while playing soccer and lacrosse. Through the Allied Health program at the Board of Cooperative Educational Services Seaway Tech Center, he shadowed ambulatory services, operating room and medical surgical floor staff at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam.

Mr. Johnson plans to attend Castleton (Vt.) State College for a bachelor’s degree in nursing before pursing further training to become a nurse anesthetist.
