LOUDONVILLE - Vassar College snapped a 6-6 tie with a run in the top of the seventh and tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth, ending St. Lawrence University’s 2013 baseball season with a 8-6 win in an elimination game at the Liberty League tournament in Loudonville Friday morning.

The Saints, who fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first and trailed 6-3 in the fifth, rallied to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn’t hold off a Vassar offense which pounded out 15 hits. SLU ends its season at 20-17 while the Brewers will continue in the losers bracket of the tournament.

Vassar came out swinging against Saint starter Andrew Schreyack, scoring four runs in the top of the first with three singles and a three-run homer by Sean Morash. The Saints came right back in the bottom of the inning, scoring three with the benefit of just one hit. Bryan Palermo reached on an error to lead it off, Carter Franz reached on catcher’s interference and Khifer O’Connor walked to load the bases. Brian Magovney’s grounder was thrown away at second with both Palermo and Franz scoring and Kevin Prindle singled to drive in O’Connor.

Kyle Casey made it 5-3 for Vassar with a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth and Dave Robbins drove in a run with a fielder’s choice in the top of the fifth for the 6-3 lead.

Prindle’s second hit of the day started the Saint rally in the bottom of the fifth and Paul Piatelli walked and Matt DeLuca was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ethan Braddock singled through the left side to drive in one run, Palermo’s ground out brought in the second and O’Connor singled home the tying run.

Brett Zaziski doubled and Nick Johnson singled him home to give Vassar the lead in the seventh and Zaziski doubled again against Saint reliever Mike Dell’Olio and scored on Morash’s single to complete the scoring in the top of the ninth.

Prindle and Braddock combined for four of the Saints’ six hits in the game while Zaziski, Johnson and Morash each had three hits for Vassar.
