The St. Lawrence Central and Parishville-Hopkinton varsity softball teams both produced low-scoring NAC wins on Friday.
SLC 3, Brushton-Moira 0: In Brasher Falls, junior Lindsey Thayer fired a two-hitter and freshman Haleigh Agans provided the offensive heroics with two swings of her bat as the Lady Larries turned back the Lady Panthers.
Thayer fanned 13 and walked just one as SLC improved to 14-2 overall on the season. Emily OConnor had six strikeouts and walked one in taking the loss as the Lady Larries took advantage of their four hits.
After three scoreless innings, Agans put SLC ahead with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth then slugged a two-run homerun in the sixth to help seal the win. Both round-trippers came with two outs. Thayer reached base with an infield single and came home in front of Agans second launch. Chelsea Savage tripled to account for the other SLC hit.
Jenna Dufrane and Ashley DeBeer had the two B-M hits.
The Lady Larries are slate to host a double-header against St. Regis Falls on Monday starting at 4 p.m.
P-H 3, Tupper Lake 1: In Tupper Lake, the Lady Panthers built a 2-0 lead on solo runs in the third and fifth innings then traded runs the rest of the way to come away with the win.
Nicole White struckout four and walked two in tossing a complete-game two-hitter for P-H. Malorie McLear was saddled with the loss.
The Lady Panthers struck first when White singled home Jenna Converse in the third. White came around to score the second run of the game in front of a single by Marlee Wilson, who finished with three hits.
The Lumberjacks got on the board in their half of the fifth when Hayley McCottery singled home Sidney Kulzer but P-H got the run back in the top of the seventh where Caitlin McGregor led-off with a walk and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.
Marissa Paradis had two hits in the winning effort while Makenzie Reif and Mary Coventry connected for the other Lady Panther hits.
Jesse Weigand singled to account for the other Tupper Lake hit.
In other East Division softball action on Friday, Madrid-Waddington swept a double-header against St. Regis Falls (14-2, 24-12) while a game between Colton-Pierrepont and Chateaugay was postponed due to a death in the Colton-Pierrepont community.
The earned a 14-2 first game win and came back with a 24-12 win in the nightcap.
M-W 14-24, SRF 2-12: A nine-run fourth sealed the win in game one as Bridget Beldock tripled home two runs in the inning. Emily Upstrome went 3-3 with three RBI while winning pitcher Blair Cryderman (4 strikeouts) went 2-3 with two RBI. Mariah Patenaude went 3-5, Desiree Pryce recorded a 2-2 effort with a doubleand Natalie Boland (1-1) also contributed.
Brittany Rondeau tripled and scored in the first inning and also connected for a single for St. Regis. Kiana Stowell and Harley Gardner each each singled while Madison Greenwood took the loss.
In the nightcap, Pryce belted a two run homerun, ripped an RBI single in a 2-4 effort and Beldock went 2-3 with two RBI and Logan Barkley finished 3-3 with three RBI leading the Jackets who took a 12-1 lead in the third and answered St. Regis Falls nine run bottom of the third with four in fourth and seven in the fifth.
Cryderman fanned six batters and allowed 10 hits in the game for the win. She also doubled while Emily Upstrom delivered a three run double and Mariah Patenaude connected for a pair of singles and an RBI. Alison Fobare also singled.
Rondeau belted and homerun and a single driving in three runs for the Lady Saints. Stowell went 3-3 with three RBI. Gardner (2-4), Hana Northrup (1-3) and Teryn Sheldon (2-2) also contributed.
