Early start sparks Cougars; Pearson’s No-Hitter lifts Bears

The Lady Sandstoners of Potsdam made a strong recovery from their first NAC loss of the season by pulling away from Heuvelton 13-3 in NAC Girls Lacrosse action on Friday.

Katie Lashomb, Maddie St. Pierre and Jackie Sovie connected for the Heuvelton goals. No details were available on Potsdam’s scoring.

Massena 11, Central Square 10: In Adams, the Lady Raiders fell behind 6-4 by halftime before senior Alisha Jacobs connected for a textbook transition goal with just 10 seconds left in regulation to lift Massena into the South Jeff tournament final.

Jacobs finished with five goals and an assist while Erin Francis tallied two goals and two helpers. Carlie Leary chipped in two goals and an assist. Hunter Waldau paced Central Square with three goals.

Annalee Beckstead (1 save) and Felicity Love (4 saves) shared crease duties in the win while Morgan Colburn turned aside four shots in the losing cause.

The Lady Raiders will now get set to take on the winner of the other first round matchup between South Jeff and Manlius-Pebble Hill this morning starting at 11:30 a.m.

Canton 20, Salmon River 12: At Roger Dusharm Field in Canton, the Lady Bears pulled away from a 8-7 halftime lead against Salmon River as Rachel Huntley exploded for seven goals and three assists, Kali Frank generated three goals and two assists and Katie Lapinski scored two goals and posted three assists and Tessa Knight delivered three goals.

Claire Bartlett, Mary Kate Mace, Alison Noble and Emily Pinckney all scored once as Morgan Eggleston stepped in goal for her first start and made 10 saves.Kyra Thompson scored four goals for Salmon River. Inea Thompson and Tewasherake Barnes each netted three while Kiera Pyke made 11 saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Potsdam12, Northwood Prep 6: In a non-league matchup, the Sandstoners steadily worked their way to a 10-2 lead through the first three quarters as Stephen Lewis led a balanced attack with four goals and an assist. Chris Stone netted a pair of goals.

GOLF

Potsdam 216, Malone 218: At Malone, five of the six Sandstoners carded rounds in the 40’s led by Konnor Bigwarfe with a 40, including a birdie on the fifth hole, on the par 35 front nine of the East Course. Aidon Clouthier contributed a 41 toward the Potsdam cause followed by Dan Stone with a 43, Dan Cruikshank with a 44 and Marc McAdoo with a 48. Ryan McDonald finished with a non-scoring 51. Evan Hanna fired an even-par 35 in the losing effort. Elliot Vanier was also solid for the Huskies, shooting a 42 while Dylan Fleury and Davis Sprague followed with a 45 and 47, respectively.
