Wesley Berg scored a career-high eight goals as the University of Denver defeated the University at Albany, 19-14, in the first round of the NCAA Division I mens lacrosse tournament Saturday night at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in Denver.
Berg added an assist for the Pioneers (13-4), who play North Carolina in the quarterfinals.
Former Salmon River player Ty Thompson scored three goals for Albany (13-5).

Andrew Chadderdons goal with 2 minutes, 58 seconds left in overtime gave Le Moyne the victory and a spot in the NCAA Division II semifinals in a first-round game in Brookville.
Long Island-Post outscored Le Moyne 4-1 in the final quarter to force overtime.
Former Immaculate Heart player Tyler Prevost, who leads the Dolphins (16-2) in points and assists, was held to one shot on goal.

Second-ranked Dickinson College cruised over Adrian (Mich.) College in a Division III second-round game in Lancaster, Pa.
Cody Kilcoyne, a former St. Lawrence Central player, scored two unassisted goals for Adrian (14-4).

Unranked Western New England rallied from an 8-6 deficit to upend No. 9 Nazareth (15-5) in the second-round game.

Carthages Katie Ferris scored a team-high four goals on Friday to help the University of Massachusetts to a Division I first-round win over Connecticut.
UMass (18-2) faces Penn State today at University Park, Pa. Penn State has never lost to UMass in seven games, but the teams have not played each other since 2001.
Carthages Amy Tiernan contributed a ground ball in the UMass victory.

Adelphi College spoiled Le Moynes first NCAA Division II tournament home game in program history with a narrow first-round victory over the Dolphins on Saturday.

SUNY Cortland rolled into the Division III quarterfinals with a win over Adrian College on Saturday in Cortland.
The Red Dragons (20-1) have won 17 straight games and play Bowdoin College today in a quarterfinal in Cortland. Ogdensburg Free Academy graduate Chelsea Martin is a sophomore defender for Cortland.
