WINTHROP - A 42-year-old Winthrop man drowned Sunday afternoon when he was searching for his dog in a swampy area behind the Key Bank, state Route 11C, in Winthrop.
State police said the body of Jarred S. Donalis was located by a volunteer in approximately three feet of water on the edge of a pond shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday.
Bureau of Criminal Investigation Senior Investigator Judith M. Trimboli, Massena, said state police received a missing person call from Donalis mother at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday reporting her son had wandered off looking for his dog and had not returned home. Mr. Donalis had an advanced medical condition that impacted his mobility, she said.
She said state police and volunteers launched a search and located his body approximately a quarter of a mile from his residence. There was no sign of foul play, and the cause of death was ruled to be an accidental drowning, she said.
