Rocco P. Marra

Rocco P. Marra, 89, formerly of Haley Street, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the Samaritan Keep Home where he had been a resident.

Mr. Marra was born December 28, 1923 in Watertown a son of Philip and Frances Yaria Marra. He was orphaned at the age of four and raised at St. Patrick’s Home by the Sisters of St. Joseph. He graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy and joined the United States Army in 1943. He served with Headquarters Base Squadron, 72nd Service Group in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946. On March 20, 1947 he married Catherine L. Tauroney at Holy Family Church with Monsignor Farrell officiating.

Mr. Marra was a Multi-lithograph printer for the New York Air Brake retiring in 1982. After his retirement he was employed part time with the North Country Library System until 2007. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church, a member of the Legion of Mary at the church and a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed bowling with his New York Air Brake friends and photography. Rocco was a good neighbor, always giving and charitable, and he loved his family, friends, church and chocolate. He will be lovingly remembered.

Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Elaina F. Marra, Watertown, Elissa L. (Ernest) Orlando and Lori A. Marra (Lisa Moretto), all of Rochester, two grandchildren, Matthew P.(Susan) and Michael B. Hedrick, several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and a sister died before him.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2:30-7:00 pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 9:15 am at the funeral home with a 10 am funeral mass at Holy Family Church with Rev. Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors. Contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1425 Washington Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
