St. Lawrence Central wracked up a high-scoring sweep over St. Regis Falls while Massena Central held on for a 12-10 win over Gouverneur in NAC varsity softball action on Monday.
SLC 16-22, SRF 0-3: In Brasher Falls, the Lady Larries scored 12 runs in their first at-bat before going on to settle for the 16-0 decision in the first of what turned out to be a pair of lopsided five-inning wins.
Kelsey Newtown went the distance for the win, striking out 13 and walking none while allowing just a two-out single in the third to Brittany Rondeau.
Offensively for SLC in the opening game, Haleigh Agans and Sam Richards (2 runs scored) both went 3-3 with three RBI while Breanna Vatter was 3-4 with two runs scored. Lindsey Thayer was 2-2 with two runs scored and two RBI while Brandi Thomas was 2-2 with three runs scored.
Thayer pitched the first three innings for the win in the nightcap, striking out four and walking one while surrendering one hit before giving way to eighth-grader Bailey Gauthier, who had three strikeouts, walked two and allowed four hits through the final two frames in relief.
Kiana Stowell went the distance in taking the loss.
Thomas and Thayer combined to anchor a potent SLC offense that pounded out 21 hits. Thomas was 4-5 with four runs scored and two RBI while Thayer drove in a total of eight runs on two homeruns and a triple. Vatter (3 RBI) and Noelle Rufa both had three hits and came around to score three runs. Richards was 2-2 with a homerun. Caitlin Grow was 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Chelsea Savage was 2-3 with a triple, RBI and run scored while Agans poled an RBI-triple and scored three runs and Morgan Villnave was 1-2 with two runs scored.
Rondeau was 2-2 with a run scored in the losing cause. Stowell connected for an RBI-triple and Teryn Sheldon drilled an RBI-single.
The Lady Larries (16-2) are slated to host an interdivisional game against Franklin Academy today starting at 4:30 p.m.
Massena 12, Gouverneur 10: In a Central Division contest in Massena, the Lady Raiders built a 19-4 lead after four innings before holding on for the win. Mackenzie Young doubled twice to in the winning effort while Bailey Dillabaugh tripled and singled and Chelsea Streeter doubled and singled. Vanessa Kirkey went the distance for the win.
Kortnee Bishop doubled twice for Gouverneur (5-8, 4-6) and Leesa Isereau doubled and singled while Mackenzie Rowe was saddled with the loss.
The Lady Raiders (5-4) are slated to host Salmon River on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
In other NAC softball on Monday, OFA turned back Central Division rival Canton 3-2 in eight innings while Lisbon doubled Morristown 16-8 in the lone West Division contest.
