WADDINGTON – The town will have 25 temporary campsites available for the Bassmaster Elite Tournament in August.
Councilor David Putney said the campground committee has completed plans for four dry sites toward the top of the point. The RV and tent sites will be available for Homecoming and during and after tournament.
Were all set to go, Mr. Putney said. We need to get portable bathrooms up there which the town.
The sites will be advertised with the St. Lawrence County and Massena Chamber of Commerce.
The committee is hoping the campsites will be the first of many to be installed on Leishman Point.
The committee is also working to install four permanent campsites next year. Planner James Thew, who is designing the campground, will finish his plans in time for next months meeting, Mr. Putney said.
While there is water available on the point, Mr. Putney said it is yet to be determined from where power can be drawn.
We think we got the plans the way we want for the permanent campground, Mr. Putney said. At our next meeting we should have the completed plans for the board to look at. More than 10 campsites we will need to have a bathhouse.
The land has been available since it was released as part of the 2003 Relicensing Settlement Agreement with the New York Power Authority. The land was initially purchased by NYPA as part of the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project.
