COPENHAGEN A Barnes Corners man died Wednesday in an all-terrain vehicle crash on private land off Cobb Road in the town of Harrisburg.
William F. Snyder, 75, of 572 County Route 194, was driving alone Wednesday when, while he was backing his ATV southwesterly on sloped land, the machine tipped over onto its left side and ejected him, police said.
He was discovered in midafternoon by a family friend and was pronounced dead at the scene by Lewis County District Attorney Leanne K. Moser, also the county coroner.
Officials are uncertain of the time of the accident or the cause of death. An autopsy is slated for Thursday afternoon at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.
Members of the Lewis County Sheriffs Department and Lewis County Search and Rescue assisted at the scene.
Mr. Snyder was vice commander of the Lewis County Marine Corps League and the Lowville Veterans of Foreign Wars Lewis County Memorial Post 6912.
