Hammond tops Hermon-DeKalb in baseball; Heuvelton stays unbeaten


DEKALB JUNCTION - With just two games remaining in the regular season and clinging to the eighth seed in the upcoming Section 10 Class D playoffs in baseball, the Hammond Red Devils secured a much needed win at Hermon-DeKalb on Wednesday 10-6 in NAC West Division play.

Hammond 10, H-D 6: Collin Martin weathered some early problems to pitch six and two-thirds innings of five hit ball fanning 15 batters for the (4-9) Red Devils. Nolan Martin, Nick Jewitt, Chris Sherron, Adam Bickelhaupt, Chuck Clemons, and John Winchester all supplied a key single in the win.

Macaulay Snell supplied a homerun and single while Cameron Hance tripled and scored twice leading H-D. Pat Perry and Ryan Brown each singled. Brad Weller struck out six batters in the first two innings For H-D.

Heuvelton 10, E-K 0: Chris Powers fanned eight batters and allowed five hits in the complete game shutout for Heuvelton (13-0) Cody Holland and Aiden Scagel each went 3-4 with three RBI while Mike Martin went 2-3 with an RBI. Matt Guardino supplied a RBI double while Mike Guardino, Lucas Brown, Jack Palmer, and Chris Power each singled.

Cody Rowe lined two singles for E-K (5-6, 5-8) while Jeremiah Randall, Chris Davison, Trent White all singled.

Harrisville 15, Morristown 6: Jared Dreythaler smacked a triple, a double and a single and Chris Sullivan stroked a double and a single to lead the 11-2, 13-3 Pirates. Nick Weir, winning pitcher Justin Hartle, and Joey Butts each singled twice while Nathan Weaver doubled and Justin Brackett, Tim Fowler, and Bryon Evans each singled. Devin Dulmage connected for a two run homerun, a solo homerun and a single for Morristown (9-4). Bobby Simmons, Dakota Marshall, Jake VanArnam each singled twice while Karter VanArnam, Luke King, Ryan Vollmer, and Zach Kanaly each singled once.

Clifton-Fine 10, Lisbon 4: Andrew Locke and Carl Twyman each stroked a double and a single and Emmill Shaul and J. Folsom each connected for a double leading the Eagles (5-8) past the host Knights (3-10).

Matt Russell, who also singled, allowed eight hits and one walk striking out three in the complete game. Don Duprey lined two doubles and a single for LCS while Adam Kelley lined a single and a double. James Darcy ripped a double while Reilly Alberto and Eric Richards each singling.


Potsdam 25, Gouverneur 0: Ben Miller limited the Gouverneur bats to just one hit and fanned 14. Offensively, Trevor Keleher led the way for Potsdam going 5-5 with a double, two triples, five runs scored and two RBI. Andrew Ace had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two others. Connecting for two hits each were; Miller (HR, 3RBI), Will Coleman (2B, 3B, 2RBI, 3RS), Shawn Clark (HR, 2B, 4RBI, 3RS), Brandon Noble (4RBI, 2RS), Connor Prosper (2RBI) and Morgan Sutliff. Thomas Andrews singled in the seventh inning to spoil Miller’s bid for the no-hitter.

Malone 10, Canton 6: Abe Gravell picked up the win in relief of starter Austin Lamay. Shawn Mulverhill, Jordan Yando and Jake Henning paced the Huskies with two hits apiece. Francisco Palumbo paced the Golden Bears with a single and double while solo hits came from Johnny Stone, Hayes, Jake Corbine and Devin Foote.
