CHATEAUGAY The academic leaders for the class of 2013 at Chateaugay Central School are Benjamin Roulston, valedictorian, and Meaghan Wood, salutatorian.
Mr. Roulston, son of Bernard and Julie Roulston, has an academic average of 96.18. He is class president, a member of National Honor Society, and enjoys star-gazing, amateur astronomy, hiking, playing trumpet and reading. He was awarded the Clarkson Leadership Award, Xerox Award for Information Technology, is a Science Olympiad Medalist and an Elmira College Key Recipient. Mr. Roulston plans to attend Clarkson University, Potsdam, to pursue a Ph.D. in physics, with a concentration in elementary particles.
Miss Wood, daughter of William and Brenda Wood, has an academic average of 96.15. She was a member of Junior National Honor Society, a member of National Honor Society, received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award, St. Michaels College Book Award and Elmira College Key. She was named to the honor roll, participated as an ambassador to the Hugh OBrian Youth Leadership Program and was a Student Sage Scholar. Miss Wood has been a student council officer since seventh grade, serving as vice president her senior year, and is involved in Rotary Interact, Science Club and the schools mentoring program. She has studied ballet and contemporary dance at LEcole de Danse Neva Shelton and Guibords North Country School of Ballet. She volunteers as an altar server at St. Patricks Church, is a Eucharistic minister and teaches Bible school. Miss Wood plans to study dance at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, and would like to be a physical therapist.
