To The Editor:

Open letter to the voters of the Salmon River Central School District:

My name is Judy Cushman Stark, and I am seeking your support to continue to serve on the Salmon River Central School board.

I have served unselfishly and tirelessly on the BOE for three full terms and currently I serve as president of the board. I feel that I have much to offer as my education and business background, as well as my school board experience, gives me immeasurable experience and insight in matters of budget, finance, audit, contracts and the like.

My record stands for itself as it proves to you that I am fair and honest and do not shy away from the hard decisions. I offer myself to serve on this board, once again, as your representative, without any ulterior motives or pre-judgments and, if elected, will continue to serve all children in the district as I have in years past.

I am a graduate of Salmon River Central and a graduate of State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a bachelor of science degree in education.

I am a lifelong resident of Westville. I am married to Howard Stark, and we have three children, Heather, Aaron, and Melissa (all graduates of Salmon River) and three grandchildren.

My husband and I own and operate a business, Stark’s Gravel and Excavation, where we employ up to 30 employees at the peak of construction season.

There are many good things happening in all the schools under the Salmon River umbrella of which I have been honored to have been a part.

A few highlights of which I am very proud, not only as a board member but as a community member are the opening of the middle school, seeing an increase in graduation rate, and the offering of honors classes and the addition of advanced placement classes (up to 10 classes offered with college credit from NCCC).

There has been a huge boom in participation in our music department, and we were able to reinstate our drama program.

I am very proud, too, of our technological advances (smart boards in all classrooms) afforded to us through capital projects, along with housing the only satellite BOCES in the state that presently offers programs in agriculture and HVAC in brand new facilities.

And too, I must express my pride in our outstanding athletic teams, and amazing robotics team.

These are just a few of Salmon River’s recent accomplishments, which could not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our entire staff.

Voting will take place Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. at the Salmon River Central auditorium. I thank you in advance for your support. The choice is yours.

Judy Stark
