Open letter to:

Commission of AMVETS Past Commanders

Brasher Falls, NY

Dear Anonymous,

I would like to take this opportunity to respond to the letter you recently sent to AMVETS Post 4 Commander Harry Convertini.

First and foremost, Mr. Convertini is not now, nor has he ever been Post 4 commander. Although Harry would make a fine commander, he has not thrown his hat in the ring. As to your first assertion of the powers of the Post are going to the same individuals year after year, you are totally off the mark.

Post elections are held annually and any paid member in good standing may run for any office once nominated. You being a past commander should be well aware of this. Your second assertion of the practice of nepotism is also false. None of Post 4 employees are related to an officer. The closest we come is Nanette Convertini, who happens to be Harry’s daughter-in-law and, as I stated earlier, Harry is not an officer.

Nanette was hired on her own merit. She is attractive, personable and above all a damn good bartender. She also belongs to the Ladies Auxiliary.

I have tried to find information and members of your Commission to Reform and House Clean New York State AMVETS Operations but have so far come up empty. I feel that your letter is a half hearted drive by attempt to discredit the officers and employees of Massena Post 4.

If you or any of your members wish to come out of hiding and meet with myself or any officer of Post 4, we would gladly address any of your concerns. If, instead, you wish to remain anonymous I suggest you keep your comments where they belong. We are at your service, sir.

Respectfully yours,

Fred Cockayne,

Member, Massena AMVETS Post 4

Francis (Bud) Byington,

Commander, Massena AMVETS Post 4

Ron Faucher

Finance Officer

Harry Convertini
