The Childrens Home of Jefferson County has appointed psychiatrist Robert M. Woznicki as medical director of the Community Clinic of Jefferson County, effective in mid-July.
Dr. Woznicki will be the first full-time psychiatrist the clinic has had on staff since the Childrens Home opened it in 2011.
Weve always intended to have a full-time psychiatrist on staff; it was always the intent from day one, said Barbara J. Peck, Childrens Home administration services director. It was definitely a process and took a while. Theres no pool to draw in locally, so you have to draw from outside.
The Childrens Home had an outside recruiting agency find Dr. Woznicki, she said.
Were very excited, and he is as well, Mrs. Peck said. Hell be a good fit.
Since 2007, Dr. Woznicki has been involved with a state Office of Mental Health comprehensive recovery-oriented program for people with severe and persistent mental illness. He ran a private practice on Long Island and was an attending physician at three hospitals on or near Long Island.
He received his medical doctorate from Jagiellonian University, Nicholaus Copernicus Academy of Medicine, Krakow, Poland, in 1985. He completed his psychiatry residency in 1989 at Stony Brook University, and in 1990 completed a psychosomatic medicine fellowship program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
Dr. Woznicki is board-certified and licensed in New York state.
Until the summer, a part-time psychiatrist will oversee the medical director obligations. Other staff includes two half-time nurse practitioners, one full-time nurse practitioner and nine counselors/therapists. Mrs. Peck said it is unclear at this time whether the clinic will continue with a part-time or temporary psychiatrist in addition to Dr. Woznicki.
The 5,100-square-foot Community Clinic is at 167 Polk St., Suite 300.
