POTSDAM - OFAs NAC Central Baseball season, and Tom Pinkertons tenure as varsity coach, opened with an 8-7 loss at Malone.
Afterwards Coach Pinkertons son, Seth, said dont worry dad, it is going to be just like basketball, we are going to win the rest of our games and win the title.
On Thursday the Devils claimed their 10th straight win with a 7-4 decision over Potsdam (9-2) and can clinch the title outright by winning their Senior Game with Massena on Monday.
The Devils will also play a nonleague game against Malone on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Clarkson University.
I am just very proud of the guys. They have really worked hard and we have hit the ball well all season. To get 10 hits off an outstanding pitcher like Will Coleman is a real achievement and to beat a team like Potsdam twice is a big deal, said Coach Pinkerton. Breton LaRose was dealing with an injury but he bulldoged his way through five innings today and Seth Pinkerton picked up four strikeouts in two innings and got himself out of a jam in the sixth inning.
LaRose and Pinkerton combined for nine strikeouts against a Potsdam lineup which matched OFAs 10 hits.
The Stoners also matched OFAs 4-0 start and tied the game with two runs in the fifth inning. The Devils answered with three runs in the sixth inning where Andrew Cole reached on an error, Pat Cosmo walked, Breton LaRose stroked an RBI single, Seth Pinkerton reached on a fielders choice and Konnor Murdock lined a two-out single.
Murdock and Kinnon LaRose both singled twice in the game, Lefty Arsenault belted a long two-run triple in the first inning, Cole doubled, Jon Tayler and Breton LaRose singled and Cosmo drew two walks and scored twice.
Coleman who struck out nine in a complete game effort, rapped two singles and a double at the plate. Andrew Ace poled a single and an RBI-double in the fifth inning. Shawn Clark, Zach Snyder and Trevor Keleher each singled twice while Brandon Noble added a single.
