To The Editor:
On Tuesday, I urge all residents of the Ogdensburg City School District to approve the proposed budget for the 2013-2014 school year. As a school board member, I can assure you that our administration, our business manager and our school board have worked very hard to control spending and still provide a quality education for our students. Also, during my two years on the board, I have watched our board president, Fred Bean, devote countless hours to our district dealing with the budget, the capital project, and lobbying for more aid. I applaud him for that.
We are in a period where we simply do not have the funds to conduct business as usual, and it is going to be that way for the foreseeable future. Tough decisions are going to have to be made, and I believe Fred has the experience to do that. I also encourage the voters to allow the school district to sell Sherman School in an attempt to put it back on the tax roll. The building has served us well over the years, but it is time to retire it.
