N-N baseball team surges to NAC win over Chateaugay

NORFOLK - Coming off its first NAC loss of the season, the Norwood-Norfolk varsity baseball team pounded out a 24-0 NAC East Division win over Chateaugay at Vern Burrows Field on Friday.

Cody Smith went 3-4 with four runs scored, Brandon Short went 2-4 with four runs scored, Colby Munson was 2-4 with three runs scored and Barry Labarr finished 2-3 with two runs scored as the Flyers had 15 hits and scored 12 runs in the third inning in a five inning shutout win. RJ Bent fanned four batters in four innings and Zeb Brown had a strikeout and allowed one of the two hits in the game for the combined win.

The Flyers are slated to play at Class C rival St. Lawrence Central today starting at 11 a.m.

Tupper Lake 16, St. Regis Falls 5: In the other East Division matchups on Friday, the Lumberjackets scored nine runs in the first and Devin Larson pitched five and one-third innings of three-hit ball for the win. Mitch Keniston and Kris Crouse each supplied two hits. Larson had a hit to aid his own effort.

Mikchael Smith had two hits for St. Regis Falls.

EAST SOFTBALL

A pair of NAC East Division varsity softball games on Friday saw Chateaugay drop Colton-Pierrepont 9-1 and Tupper Lake down St. Regis Falls 24-15.

Chateaugay 9, C-P 1: In Chateaugay, the Lady Bulldogs built a 4-1 lead through the first three innings then broke the game open with a four-run rally in the sixth as Courtney Boyea pitched a two-hitter for the win and Sabrina Johnson was saddled with the loss.

Felicity Niles had a pair of triples in the winning effort.

N-N MODIFIED BASEBALL REGROUPS

In a modified baseball game played on Thursday, Norwood-Norfolk bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 10-2 decision over Madrid-Waddington in hits home finale.

Peter Jarvis pitched the complete-game win, striking out 15 and made lead offensive contributions with a pair of hits. Tristen St. Andrews (HR), Zack Wilby (double, 2RBI), Gage Orogolio and Caleb Bresett connected for two hits apiece. Riley Smutz doubled while Kaleb Parker was 1-3 with a sac fly RBI.

At 11-1 on the season, the modified Flyers are slated to close out the season on Tuesday at Tupper Lake.
