Vote King for city school board

To The Editor:

My name is James King and I would appreciate your vote in the upcoming Ogdensburg City School District Board of Education election. My wife Kate and I, along with our 10-year-old son, JD, live in the city of Ogdensburg. I am a 14 1/2-year veteran of the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, currently working at Ogdensburg Correctional Facility. As of this past school year, I have been serving as president of the Madill Elementary Parent-Teacher Association, responsible for various fundraisers and organizational student activities.

My motivation for running is a strong desire to serve my community and to make the educational needs of all our children a top priority.

For too long now it seems as though the board is more concerned with administration raises and positions than our children and teachers. I believe that there is a need for fresh ideas and a new perspective on the issues that are fast approaching.

I have a strong belief that serving too long in one position can cause one to become complacent. And complacency cannot be an acceptable trait of a body that serves the needs of children. Being progressive and moving forward in trying to solve problems should be the main goal of the board, not the outmoded thinking that is happening now.

What the taxpayer needs from the board is more transparency and better communication with the public. The people that elect the board have a right to know what is going on with all business in the district.

It has been said that I lack the experience necessary for such a post, but the one thing I do not lack is my enthusiasm to serve my district and be a positive driving force for our children by being on the board of education.

Please vote for me, James King, this Tuesday for the Ogdensburg City School District Board of Education. Thank you.

James King
