Funeral services for William J. Recker, age 90, of Lisbon will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Frary Funeral Home on Monday, May 20th with Deacon David Sandburg officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery. Mr. Recker passed away on May 16, 2013 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Mr. Recker is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Janet) Moore of Lisbon, Carol McNally and Les Tyo of Mexico, NY; two sons, William and Betsy Recker of Rennselaer Falls, and Chuck and Loni Recker of Lisbon; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer, Erin, Jaclyn Moore, Matthew McNally, Nichole and Mark Cianci, Cara- Leigh, Anna, and Merria Recker, William, Christopher, and Patrick Recker, and 2 great grandchildren, Toryn and Jovan Cianci. He is also survived by several cousins including Wallace Hurley of Talcville, NY and Beatrice Shue of Salinsgrove, PA. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Ellinor Irvine Recker (2010); one son, Joseph (1958); a brother, Dick Recker (1950) and a sister, Shirley Recker (2011).
Mr. Recker was born on April 7, 1923 in South Bend Indiana. He was the son of Elias P. Recker and Beatrice Recker Ruley. He graduated from St. Marys Academy and then entered the Armed Services as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, 517th Regiment in 1943. He was involved in campaigns in Belgium, France, Italy, and North Africa. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal and was discharged in 1945. He married Ellinor Irvine on October 5, 1946. Mr. Recker was a 39 year veteran of the New York Telephone Company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and camping on the St. Lawrence River and in Cranberry Lake. Mr. Recker was a member of the American Legion of Lisbon and a former member of the Cranberry Lake Fish and Game Club and Ogdensburg Elks Club.
