MASSENA Two Massena men have been jailed after allegedly stealing a credit card, and one was charged with escape after briefly slipping out of police custody.
David S. MacDonald, 30, of 54 Perkins Road and Donald T. Dow, 24, of 489 Main St., allegedly stole the card from a parked car on Cook Street on May 1. The card belonged to Massena resident Edward Frank.
They made multiple purchases with the card at Wal-Mart, Sunoco, McDonalds and other stores, racking up a bill of more than $3,500.
Both were arrested by village police Saturday, but while sitting handcuffed in the police station, Mr. Dow was able to slip his hand out of his cuffs and run out the back door, Massena police said. He was re-apprehended about an hour later.
Mr. Dow was charged with two counts of grand larceny, conspiracy, resisting arrest, forgery and escape.
Mr. MacDonald was charged with grand larceny and conspiracy.
Both were arraigned in Massena Town Court by Gerald P. Sharlow and taken to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton.
Mr. MacDonalds bail was set at $10,000 cash. Mr. Dows was set at $50,000.
