Army continues investigation of Fort Drum deaths

FORT DRUM — The separate death cases of a 4-year-old boy and two soldiers from post still are being examined, according to Army investigators.

In an email Tuesday, Christopher P. Grey, spokesman for the Army Criminal Investigation Command, Quantico, Va., said the investigations still were open and ongoing.

He also wrote “there is nothing we can release at this time in order to protect the integrity of the investigations.”

The unnamed 4-year-old died Dec. 10 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after being taken by ambulance to the hospital from an on-post residence. Post officials have declined to identify the child or his family, citing privacy concerns.

The deaths of two soldiers also are being reviewed.

Sgt. Carl E. Brock died Dec. 17 at his on-post residence, operated by Fort Drum Mountain Community Homes. The 28-year-old from Claremore, Okla., was a communications transmission systems operator with the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

Results also were limited for the investigation into the death of Pfc. Michael A. Gorman of the 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, who was found dead in his barracks room Feb. 5.

Little information has been released since the deaths were announced.

Asked in a follow-up email what information or test results still were needed in the cases, Mr. Grey said the command policy was to not publicly discuss specific elements of investigations until they are complete and, if necessary, after any connected legal proceedings.
