CANTON — The father of admitted murderer Dustin J. Trimm has been indicted on allegations he bribed a witness in an effort to prevent that person from testifying against his son in the trial.

Steven Trimm, 64, Winthrop, was arrested Tuesday under a St. Lawrence County Court warrant. Under an indictment unsealed Tuesday, he faces charges of felony bribing of a witness, fifth-degree conspiracy and fourth-degree criminal solicitation.

Dustin Trimm, 38, Winthrop, pleaded guilty last month to one count of first-degree manslaughter in the Aug. 31, 2010, death of Jason M. Wing, 21, and two counts of first-degree criminal sexual act in connection with two other cases pending against him. That plea averted a murder trial that was set to begin earlier this month.

The younger Trimm shot Mr. Wing in the head and chest and buried his body in a wooded area off Grantville Road in the town of Norfolk.

State police investigators found Mr. Wing’s body Feb. 1, 2012, on property owned by Robert McConnell.

In March or April, before the trial was to begin, Steven Trimm allegedly paid $1,500 to Mr. McConnell, telling him they didn’t need to prove his son was innocent, they just had to create reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case against him.

He also allegedly arranged a meeting between the witness and a private investigator.

Mr. Trimm appeared in St. Lawrence County Court on Tuesday afternoon before being sent to the county jail, where he posted $10,000 bail a short time later. He is due to appear in County Court again Tuesday.

Dustin Trimm, meanwhile, remains in the jail without bail while he awaits sentencing on Aug. 5.
