Canton tops Massena in softball

CANTON - Scoring in every inning Canton closed its NAC Central Softball season in impressive fashion with a 13-5 victory over Massena on Tuesday. Emma Rexford struck out six pitching the first three innings and Beth Pearson fanned seven over the last four to complete a six-hitter.

Janelle Sovie went 3/4 leading a 14-hit winning offense and Lauren Smith, Jamie DiSalvo and Katie Christy all stroked two singles for the Bears (8-4) who moved into a tie with OFA for second place.

Chelsea Streeter stroked a pair of singles for Massena (7-5) and Stephanie Rogers and Vanessa Kirkey combined to strike out nine.

In other NAC finales Norwood-Norfolk completed final baseball and softball regular seasons with wins over Tupper Lake.

N-N 22, Tupper Lake 4: The Flyers (12-4, 15-4), who scored 13 runs in the fourth inning, were led by Aleah Palmer (3-4, 4 runs scored, two RBI), Kirsten Barkley (2-2, 4 runs scored), and Sarah Barabon (2-3). Katie Ames fanned five and allowed no hits and one walk in three innings for the win.


N-N 7, Tupper Lake 1: Brandon Short tossed six one-hit innings striking out nine as Troy Kovach and Short each singled twice and Kyle Sawyer and Barry LaBare each singled once for the 15-2, 13-1 Flyers. Tristan Harvey had two strikeouts in one inning of relief.

Kris Crouse singled to score Mitch Keniston who was hit by a pitch in the sixth for Tupper Lake (5-9).
