Ford helps Lakers roll past Lions

SKANEATELES — Emma Ford scored four goals as top-seeded Skaneateles beat No. 9 General Brown 17-6 in the Section 3 Class C girls lacrosse quarterfinals Wednesday.

Kayla Sears contributed three goals and one assist for the Lakers (15-2), who will play LaFayette in the semifinals.

Emily Amell, Cayla O’Connor and Hannah Peebles each recorded two goals for the Lions, who finished 9-9.

SEMIFINALS NOW FRIDAY

Because many of the Section 3 girls lacrosse quarterfinal games scheduled for Tuesday were postponed until Wednesday due to bad weather, semifinals in Class A, B and C have been moved from today to Friday.

In Class B, Watertown will play East Syracuse-Minoa at 7 p.m. at Chittenango in one semifinal. ES-M beat Fulton 15-3 on Wednesday. CBA takes on Jamesville-DeWitt in the first semifinal at 5 p.m.

In Class C, South Jefferson, which beat Tully 17-10 Tuesday, meets Marcellus in a 5 p.m. semifinal Friday at Liverpool High School. Marcellus defeated Onondaga 15-5 on Wednesday.

MASSENA 21, SARANAC LAKE 9

Erin Francis scored eight goals and assisted on two others to lead top-seeded Massena to a victory over No. 4 Saranac Lake in a Section 10 Class C semifinal game in Massena.

CANTON 13, HEUVELTON 9 (OT)

The No. 6 Bulldogs (4-13) nearly pulled off a second straight upset but fell in overtime to the host Golden Bears in a Class C semifinal. Heuvelton beat No. 3 Potsdam in a quarterfinal on Monday.

Rachael Huntley scored four goals to lead Canton (10-4), and Katie Lapinski and Tess Knight both scored three goals.

Jackie Sovie scored six goals for the Bulldogs.

BOYS TENNIS

ALEXANDRIA’S GARLOCK 3RD

Alexandria freshman Parker Garlock won two matches to take third place in the Section 3 Class C-2 third singles tournament at the Utica Parkway courts.

Garlock defeated Mark Shelhamer of Poland, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, in round one, but lost to Cooperstown’s Will Cadwalader, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals. Garlock bounced back in the third place match to beat Calvin Lucey-McCabe of Hamilton, 6-0, 6-0.

Immaculate Heart Central senior Davon Carrington finished fourth in the second singles tournament. Carrington beat Alexandria’s Ryan Cullen, 6-1, 6-2, in the first round before losing to eventual winner Grigoriy Belyaevskiy of Bishop Grimes, 6-2, 6-1.

BASEBALL

HARRISVILLE 13, CLIFTON-FINE 2

Jared Dreythaler went 2-for-4, including a triple, to send the Pirates (15-3) past the No. 7 Eagles in a Section 10 Class D quarterfinal at Harrisville.

Nathan Weaver, Nick Wear, Chris Sullivan, Tim Fowler and Joey Butts all supplied two hits for Harrisville. Logan Hayes homered for the Eagles (5-10), and Dawson Kerr, Matt Russell and Andrew Hartman each lined two hits.

TRACK AND FIELD

MEETS RESCHEDULED

The Class A girls meet, which was postponed Tuesday, will now be run with the Class A boys meet at Camden on Friday.

The Class B-1 and B-2 girls meet at Chittenango, which was halted with a few events to go on Tuesday, will now completed at the Class B boys meet Friday at Marcellus.
