A book has been published by the Historical Association of South Jefferson titled The History of the 35th New York Infantry in the Civil War.
The book, researched and compiled by Debbie Quick for the association, spotlights the 35th New York Infantry, also known as the Jefferson County Regiment because most of its soldiers were Jefferson County natives. Most of the book is based on letters written to the Jefferson County Journal in Adams and the New York Daily Reformer in Watertown by soldiers who tell about the day-to-day activities of the regiment. It includes a complete roster of soldiers with information about their births and deaths, enlistments, discharges and whether they were wounded in battle.
The book, which costs $20, will be on sale June 14 and 15 at the associations Strawberry Festival in Adams. It may be ordered after June 15 from the association, 29 E. Church St., Adams. Those who order books to be mailed by the association must add $2.50 for shipping and handling.
