Committee chooses tentative headliner for Bassmaster event

WADDINGTON – The Evans Williams Bourbon Showdown Committee has narrowed down its headliner for the Bassmaster Elite Tournament festival in August.

The committee said Thursday it is leaning toward season five American Idol top 10 finalist Bucky Covington.

Mr. Covington placed eighth in the televised national singing competition in 2006. He is best known for singing “A Different World,” “It’s Good to Be Us” and “I’ll Walk.”

“We wanted to narrow it down to rock and country,” Robert J. Giordano, event coordinator, said. “That seems to be the most popular choice.”

Mr. Giordano said he couldn’t confirm the act because there are still contracts and logistical issues to work out, but an official announcement will be made May 30.

The headliner will perform as part of the Elite Series Expo and the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce’s Tastes and Talents of the North Country Festival from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 10.

The county chamber has estimated that act will cost $10,000 and is currently seeking a sponsor for the entertainment.

Other main stage acts scheduled to perform that Saturday are the 10th Mountain Division Band, Atomic Precipitation and Lacey Stoddard.

The concerts will be held in Whittaker Park.
