To The Editor:
Memorial Day is a special day to honor heroes: the deceased men and women who have served in our countrys military. As a representative of the local American Legion, I am doing that by putting flags on graves of veterans at the local cemeteries. I cant do it all by myself. Anyone who wants to help with this mission, please meet me at the Veterans Plot of Ogdensburgh Cemetery by the new flagpole at 9 a.m. Saturday. I will bring the flags. Many hands make light work, and this should not take long.
On Memorial Day, Monday, the veterans organizations will be putting a biodegradable wreath out on the St. Lawrence River at 7:30 a.m. to honor the veterans lost at sea. The parade will start at 10 a.m. by Library Park and proceed to the Ogdensburgh Cemetery, where a ceremony will be held at the Veterans Plot. In case of rain, the parade will be canceled and the ceremony held at the Amvets. Afterward, soup and sandwiches will be available at the Amvets.
This is an opportunity to show our pride in our community and our people. I still believe in our city and hope everyone will work together to make it better.
