After a successful start last year over 20 artists from Cape Vincent along the St. Lawrence to Dingman Point and inland to the Indian River Lakes have joined promotional forces to open their studios this Memorial Day weekend. The Artists’ Studio Tour was first organized last year by Robert P. Hedden and offers local artists an opportunity to show their skills.

One will find works ranging from those of the renowned Michael Ringer to pottery, sculpture, water colors of sunsets, oil paintings of river scenes, photography, fish art, wooden bowls, a close up view of Will Salisbury’s iconic sculptures — the Three Crows visible from the southbound lane of Route 81, near the bridge — hand-carved birds, and the Thousand Islands Arts Center, the home of weaving and pottery in Clayton.

It is an extraordinary way to spend Memorial Day weekend examining the skills of so many north country artisans, relaxing in the beauty of the St. Lawrence and discovering the charms of the Indian River Lakes.
