MASSENA - Despite rainy skies and temperatures in the 40s, many local residents remain undeterred in their plans to enjoy a weekend of camping at Robert Moses State Park.
Park Manager Christopher S. Williams said that of the roughly 200 people who made reservations for the weekend, only two have canceled. Close to 140 arrived Friday for the busiest weekend of the year at Robert Moses State Park.
Massena resident Corey J. Reynolds and his family didnt let the weather prevent them from spending the weekend camping alongside a group of friends and neighbors. If the weather is nice, Mr. Reynolds hopes to enjoy some fishing, volleyball and a pig roasting, but if theres heavy rain he suspects theyll stay in their campers and play cards.
Wed already planned on coming and if it rained we were going to come (anyway). Its just something we do every year, Mr. Reynolds said.
Jack H. Baim, of Massena, also braved the poor weather to enjoy weekend camping, but if it rains heavily he does have a not-so-rustic back-up plan: go the the movies and see Star Trek Into Darkness.
Mr. Williams said Memorial Day weekend is the busiest weekend of the year for Robert Moses State Park, seconded by last weekend, which was Victoria Day in Canada. He said in the three years hes been park manager, park attendance has been higher than ever.
