To The Editor:
U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, State Department computer expert Sean Smith, and former SEALS Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were killed in the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the American diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.
We can honor these four brave Americans by making sure that Congress does its job and continues to investigate what happened in Benghazi. Their families deserve to know the truth. The 700 retired Military Special Operations professionals who sent an April 8letter to members of the U.S. House of Representatives concerning what happened in Benghazi deserve answers to their questions. It has been eight months since the attack on Benghazi, and we still do not know who gave the order to stand down or how the president spent the evening of Sept. 11, 2012. The American people deserve to know the truth about Benghazi.
The following poem expresses the feeling of the military veterans in my family.
The Battling Boys of Benghazi
Were the Battling Boys of Benghazi,
no fame, no glory, no paparazzi,
Just a fiery death in a blazing hell,
defending the country we loved so well.
It wasnt our job, but we answered the call,
fought to the consulate, and scaled the wall.
We pulled twenty countrymen from the jaws of fate,
led them to safety, and stood at the gate.
Just the two of us, and foes by the score,
but we stood fast, to bar the door,
Three calls for reinforcement, but all were denied,
so we fought and we fought, and we fought till we died.
We gave our all for our Uncle Sam,
but Barack Obama didnt give a damn.
Just two dead SEALs, who carried the load,
no thanks to us we were just bumps in the road.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday dedicated to remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War.
By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.Let Congressman William Owens know (202.225.4611 - DC office); (518.563.1406 Plattsburgh office); (315.782.3150 Watertown office) that you do not want another Memorial Day to pass without knowing the truth about what happened in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11, 2012.
