WINTHROP - Three people were transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for treatment of complaints of pain and bruising following a two-vehicle collision just before 4 p.m. on County Route 49 at County Route 54 in the town of Stockholm.
Winthrop-based state police said Mark J. Larabay, 28, of 61 Brooklyn Road, Lawrenceville, was westbound on County Route 54 when he failed to stop at a stop sign and slammed into a vehicle southbound on County Route 49, the Winthrop-Fort Jackson Road, being operated by Mark J. Lashomb, 54, of 7 Williams St., Massena. Troopers said Mr. Larabay told them his brakes failed when he reached the intersection.
Mr. Larabays 2002 Dodge van and Mr. Lashombs 2003 Honda Element were both towed from the scene.
Mr. Laraby was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Tri-Town Rescue with a complaint of knee pain, and Mr. Lashomb and a passenger in his vehicle, Sarah L. Lashomb, 32, were also transported to the hospital by Tri-Town Rescue. Mr. Lashomb complained of bodywide pain and Ms. Lashomb was treated for chest pain.
Mr. Larabay was ticketed for operation of a vehicle with inadequate brakes and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Brasher-Winthrop Fire assisted at the accident scene at Sweeneys Corner just outside the hamlet of Buckton in the town of Stockholm.
