WEST CARTHAGE During its Monday meeting, the Champion Town Council approved purchases and real property revaluation and set a public hearing to discuss best value purchasing.
Council members approved the purchase of two overhead doors for the Highway Department for an amount not to exceed $1,702.
Town Assessor William M. Vargulick was authorized to conduct a real property revaluation for the 2014 tax roll. Mr. Vargulick recommended the revaluation to maintain accurate inventory and property records and to adjust values as necessary based on a number of factors, including condition.
Following a public hearing during which no one from the public attended, the board approved an amendment to the town sewer-use law to add a 0.5 equivalent dwelling unit for a vacant lot, which had been omitted, to the EDU table.
The board set a public hearing for 7:15 p.m. July 1 to obtain public input on adopting a best value purchasing policy. Although advertising for bids for purchases and service work still would be required, best value would give the board more flexibility to take into consideration other factors besides cost such as quality and accessibility.
After reviewing information regarding the uniform notice of claims certificate, the board designated town Clerk Christina M. Vargulick as the contact person to receive notices of claims from the state secretary of state.
The council also authorized Bernier, Carr & Associates to proceed with the design of the Sewer District No. 2 transmission line from state Route 26 to the wastewater treatment facility.
