LOWVILLE Two old one-room schoolhouses will be open to the public Sunday.
Patricia Homer will host a tour and answer questions at the one-room schoolhouse on Davenport Place on the Lowville Academy campus. The building, formerly the Pine Grove-Watson No. 8 school, was moved to its current location and restored in 1988.
Today it houses furniture, books and other donated materials from the approximately 40 schoolhouses that once operated in the county. Photographs and archived materials will be on display.
Attendees should meet at the Lowville Academy schoolhouse at 2 p.m. After the tour, refreshments will be served at the Lewis County Historical Society, 7552 S. State St.
Martinsburg Historical Societys newly obtained one-room schoolhouse, located on Ramos Road, also will be open in the afternoon for self-guided visits.
