MASSENA Mr. Harold A. Flynn, 92, of 18 Brighton Street, passed away Saturday morning, June 8, 2013 in the emergency room at Massena Memorial Hospital.
Harold was born December 22, 1920 in Osnabruck Center, Ontario, the son of the late German L. and Gertrude M. Hollister. He attended schools in Massena and Norwood-Norfolk and in 2003 he received his diploma through the Operation Recognition. He served in the US Army during World War II, having been stationed in North Africa and Italy as a medic. Harold married Dorothy Durant on June 22, 1946 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Leslie Potter, officiating.
Harold worked at ALCOA as a die man for 46 years, retiring in 1985. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed spending time at his camp on Wilson Hill and gardening. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and garage-saling.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Dorothy; two sons, William Harold Flynn of Ogdensburg; and Barry Michael Flynn of Massena; his sister, Sally Waldruff of Winchester, Virginia; and nieces and nephews, Gerald and Melissa Durant, Kent, Kim, and Kurt Waldruff; Lynn St. Pierre; and Jackie Start Gijanto; and several great nieces and nephews.
Harold was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, William and Glenn Flynn; and two sisters, Kathleen Bogart and Jean Stark.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 2:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena with Rev. Heather Stierheim, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. A calling hour will begin at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Area 2, Massena.
