WEST CARTHAGE With a new round of funding beginning, the village will seek money to complete its riverfront project.
River Area Council of Governments circuit rider Kathleen M. Amyot suggested during the Board of Trustees meeting Monday that the village consider submitting a state Consolidated Funding Application to aid in the completion of the South Main Trailhead project. A boat launch, removal dock, roadway, walking paths and picnicking areas are planned for the area along the Black River.
Mrs. Amyot said there are nine categories and several subcategories in the 2013 round of funding, of which three or four could be applicable for the South Main Street project.
Mayor Scott M. Burto pointed out to the board that the project is required to have a permeable material for the roadways. Since concrete or pavement is costly, he suggested crushed stone be used first then pave later. However, if funding could be acquired through the stormwater runoff grant or another through the state CFA, then the entire driveway could be paved with the village paying only 10 percent of the cost. It will also look into funding for the planting of trees and wetland delineation.
