FORT DRUM — The posthumous promotion of Jaimie E. Leonard from major to lieutenant colonel was confirmed by the post Friday.

Lt. Col. Leonard, 39, of Warwick, was one of three killed in an attack Saturday in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, by a man wearing an Afghan army uniform.

She is the fifth female soldier from the post to die during an overseas deployment since Sept. 11, 2001.

Also killed in the attack were Lt. Col. Todd J. Clark and contractor Joseph Morabito.

Col. Clark is the 10th Mountain Division’s fifth officer of lieutenant colonel rank or higher to die in combat since 2001, and with the promotion, Col. Leonard will be the sixth.
