Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club announces summer plans


The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club has announced its summer schedule for 2013. Included will be four trips highlighted by an overnight trip to the Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to see the Yankees host the hard-hitting Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 15th and 16th.

After staying at Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, Conn. the trip will also include a visit back in to the city to tour Times Square, Central Park and a 5th Avenue walk. The Yankee trip is currently full but a waiting list has been established if spots open.

Other trips planned include Mt. Cascades Waterpark in Cantley, Quebec, Keewaydin State Park in Alex Bay for swimming, a picnic and mini-golf, and Waddington Beach for swimming and fun.


Other events include the annual George Goult Jr. Slow-pitch Softball Tournament which will be held August 2nd beginning at 10 a.m. In July, the OBGC will be having Club on the Go at the community room at Belmont Courts which will run Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. from July 1st– July 26th. (No program July 4th) The club’s annual car wash will be held August 1st, from 10 a.m. -3 p.m.


Openings are also available for the OBGC Summer Camp which will be held in four sessions this summer.

Session I will be from June 24th-June 27th. Session II will be August 5th – August 7th and August 12th-August 14th. Session III will be from August 19th-22nd with a field trip included to Waddington Beach on August 22nd; and Session IV will be August 26th – August 29th with a field trip included to Alex Bay mini-golf and Keewaydin State Park on August 29th.

The camp will be held at the club from 8 am-4 p.m. and the cost is $15 for each session or $50 for all four sessions with scholarships available. The camp is for boys and girls ages 6-16 and activities include baseball, basketball, floor hockey, touch football, soccer, whiffleball, fitness activities, arts and crafts and more.

All those attending will be required to participate in math and/or reading skills development one half hour each day. Separate age appropriate activities for younger members will include board games, trips to the playground and library, art and crafts and club programs Youth for Unity and Drama Matters.

Late afternoon each day will see a trip to the city pool for those campers interested. Applications are available at the club.

During the weeks of Club Camp the club will be opened at 7:45 a.m. for camper drop-off and camper pick-up will be between 3:45 and 4 p.m. The club will be opened on Friday evenings, Aug. 23 & Aug. 30 from 6 – 9 p.m.
