Lately reports of individuals claiming military duty awards has been in the news. (Times Sunday Weekly article Pseudo soldier, decorated duper) Michael Douglas McDowell of Fort Worth had been impersonating a U. S. Army officer. He even had Purple Heart license plates and was never in the service.

A Syracuse man claiming to be an officer in the Korean war veterans organization was wearing his brother’s medals. He was exposed and was never in Korea. For years, actors, law enforcement, politicians etc., have been exposed as phonies without any real punishment. Hopefully, the revised Stolen Valor Act passed in Washington will deter future impersonations etc. The maximum punishment is warranted for disgraceful demeanor, especially among combat veterans detecting imposters in reference to fallen comrades.

My father was a World War II POW in the Battle of the Bulge. I’m a combat-wounded Vietnam veteran, and both of us volunteered to be drafted. It would be inspirational to have more politicians and bureaucrats earnestly depose imposters exposing shameful demeanor.
