FORT DRUM — A new deputy commanding general for support will take over Wednesday at a change-of-command ceremony on post.

Gen. Walter E. Piatt, who has served on post for just under a year, will be replaced by Col. Carl A. Alex.

Col. Alex has served as the deputy chief legislative liaison in the office of Chief Legislative Liaison at the Pentagon since last year. He also has led at the brigade and battalion level.

In February, the Army announced that Gen. Piatt will become commanding general of the Joint Multinational Training Command, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, based in Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Gen. Piatt arrived at Fort Drum in July, and became a general in November.
