Samuel H. Clarke


Clifton Park, New York- Samuel H. Clarke, 87 died on Monday June 17, 2013 with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born on June 12, 1926 in Fort Covington, NY and was the middle child of seven to the late Charles and Elsie (Tatem) Clarke. He graduated from high school in Potsdam, NY in 1944 and enlisted in the US Navy, serving during World War II. He returned to Potsdam to attend Clarkson College, graduating in 1952 with a degree in Civil Engineering. His career started with O’Brien and Gere Engineering in Syracuse, NY. He then worked for Sun Oil Company (Sunoco) for 31 years, retiring in 1988. He has lived in Clifton Park since 1968. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. What he enjoyed most in recent years was watching and following his grandchildren’s school and sports events.

He is the beloved husband of 60 years to Margaret (LaVine) Clarke; devoted father of Deborah Clarke, MD (Cheryl Bruttomesso) of Philadelphia, PA and Amy (Christopher) Hart of Saratoga Springs, NY; cherished grandfather of Mackenzie, Colton, Connor and Brodie Hart and Samantha and Kathryn Bruttomesso-Clarke

Funeral service will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 pm in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home 1550 Rt. 9 in Clifton Park.

Calling hours will be from 5 -8 pm Thursday in the funeral home.

Interment will be at Bayside Cemetery, Monday at 10am in Potsdam, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Attention: Gift Processing, PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.

Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home 1550 Route 9 Clifton Park, New York 12065.
