Richard T. Weldon, 90, Harbor Place, Port St. Lucie, Florida, died peacefully on June 15, 2013, under the care of his family and Hospice. Richard, born on March 5, 1923, was the last survivor of the ten children of James J. and Marguerite Smith Weldon. James J. Weldon was a well known local businessman, and who resided at 1220 State Street, Watertown. Richard attended local schools, and graduated from La Salle Military Academy, Long Island, in 1940. He and his father often rode their horses through Thompson Park.

He served with the Combat Engineers in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II and attended Loyola University in Montreal both before and after his military service.

After employment with the family business, Weldon and Weldon Coal Company, Richard obtained employment with the New England Mutual Insurance Company from 1954 through 1961, where he was rookie of the year in 1956. From 1961 through 1988, he was employed as district agent in Watertown for the Guardian Life Insurance Company, and was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table.

Richard married Sara E. (Sally) Wallace on February 17, 1951, in the rectory of Sacred Heart Church. He and Sally made their home at 321 TenEyck Street from 1961 through 1992 and enjoyed their cottage in Chaumont during the summer months. In 1988, they purchased their home in Naples, Florida, where they resided for 18 years. Richard and Sally then resided in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and in 2006 moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Richard loved motorcycling, walking, hiking, swimming, motor boating, fishing, reading and Bridge, and was always very active. Most of all he loved his family. He was a very generous person to his family and everyone else. Richard and Sally were proud to have provided 25 years of higher education to their children.

While he resided in Watertown, Richard was a member of the Black River Valley Club, the Crescent Yacht Club, the Ives Hill Country Club, and was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sally, four children and six grandchildren; Attorney Lisa Weldon, Watertown, and her daughter Marisa; Attorney Mark (Lisbeth) Weldon, Eatontown, New Jersey, and his daughters Carly and Melanie; Jonathan Weldon, Port St. Lucie; and Alexandra (Ralph) Scott, Port St. Lucie, and her children, Taylor and Victoria Soderquist and Oliva Scott; and 48 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in death by his son Scott; five brothers, James, John (Jack), Robert, William and Patrick; and four sisters, Mary Bachman, Helen Wilder, Katherine Kissel and Peggy Harris.

There will be no funeral or calling hours. A memorial service is tentatively planned for mid-July in Watertown. If anyone wishes to make a donation in Richard’s name, the family suggests Treasure Coast Hospice, Fort Pierce, Florida.
