To The Editor;
It is only fitting after serving his community with great dignity, that Mr. LaBaff be honored by St. Lawrence County IDA. Naming its new headquarters Ernest J. LaBaff after him further glorifies Mr. LaBaffs role as a prominent figure in the industrial network as union president of the Aluminum Brick & Glass Workers International.
Mr. LaBaff was and remains the cornerstone that helped provide suitable working conditions and wages through tireless negotiations for his members. I can remember growing up when anyone spoke of ALCOA or Reynolds Metals Aluminum his name would most always follow in the conversation.
His strong influence laid the groundwork in securing the necessary low cost electric power from NYPA to remain available in the north country. Mr. LaBaff never shunned from his convictions and commitment to his membership or his community. He demonstrated having the guts to pursue the fight that is worth fighting.
An individual such as Mr. LaBaff doesnt come along too often; he was and remains a man of action.
